The Village Design Statement is currently being worked on by the VDS Steering Group.
This Design Statement is intended to become, when accepted by Maidstone Borough Council, part of that collection of statutory documents that have to be taken into account, when planning questions arise.
With the aid of a grants from Detling Parish Council and The Civic Trust, well attended meetings have been held in The Village Hall with further chances for residents to view possible contents of any draft plans to be involved in the final statement, on several evenings in The School Hall.
The steering group have been heartened by the considerable amount of ideas and feedback from local residents. The eventual document will express the interests of local residents in how they would wish to see the whole Parish grow, not only in the built environment but also in its surrounding landscapes. At present, the many ideas and submissions by residents are being collated and analysed so that a final draft can be presented for further discussion and acceptance.
