Detling Parish Plan Robin Grimble

The Detling Parish Plan was launched on Saturday 12th November at Detling Village Hall by His Worship the Mayor of Maidstone, Cllr John Horne. About 70 people attended from Detling and neighbouring parishes and also agencies and organisations who helped in the preparation and funding of the Plan.

The Plan presents the findings of a community appraisal conducted in Detling in the past two years. It develops a vision of what people would like Detling to be in the longer term and an action plan to take this vision forward. It contributes to the evidence base that informs the development plans and strategies of local authorities and gives Detling a voice in shaping its future. Example actions include:

- developing a design and landscape statement for the parish
- exploring opportunities for a village green as a focus for the village
- exploring the need and opportunities for affordable housing
- promoting the post office/ store, school and village institutions
- working to improve road safety and access at highway intersections
- working to reduce noise levels from the A249, M20 and Showground events
- working to reduce fly-tipping, litter and improve cleanliness.

Copies of the Plan are available free of charge to all Detling households and invited guests; additional copies can be purchased at £5 each and interactive CDs of the same document at £2 each. The document can be downloaded here Parish Plan (3.2Mb)
