A man who illegally dumped waste in the Maidstone countryside has been ordered to pay more than £1,000 after being successfully prosecuted by Maidstone Borough Council.

Kamahl Robinson, 30, from Rochester, pleaded guilty to an offence of fly-tipping, contrary to Section 33 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990, at Sevenoaks Magistrates' Court on Friday 31 July 2026.

The prosecution followed an investigation by Maidstone Borough Council's Waste Crime Team after illegally deposited rubbish was found on a rural lane in Boxley.

The incident happened shortly before 10am on Thursday, 2 October 2025 when Mr Robinson dumped six bin bags full of domestic waste in Yelsted Lane. Unbeknown to him, he was caught on camera and investigators were able to trace the vehicle used in the crime to Mr Robinson. He was initially issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice, which went unpaid, resulting in court proceedings being commenced.

During the hearing, Mr Robinson admitted responsibility for dumping the waste and entered a guilty plea.

The court imposed a £320 fine, a £128 victim surcharge and order him to pay £609 in prosecution costs. The total amount ordered by the court was £1,057.

A collection order was also made by the court. Failure to pay could result in further enforcement action being taken by the court to recover the debt.

Our Waste Crime Team uses CCTV, drones and other investigative techniques to identify offenders and build the evidence needed to secure prosecutions.

"Technology is helping us and we will continue to evolve our approach to tackling environmental crime. Anyone considering fly-tipping should be aware that the chances of being caught are greater than they might think."
