Temporary Road Closures & Suspend Environmental Weight Restriction– VARIOUS ROADS – from 1ST MAY 2026 for up to 18 months

To allow the High Speed Road Programme to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic and suspend environmental weight restriction on Various Roads, Maidstone, Tonbridge & Malling and Tunbridge Wells as per the schedule below.
This Order takes effect on or after 1st May 2026 for a period of up to 18 months or until the works have been completed. Planned dates will be published in advance of the works and indicated by signage displayed on site 14 days before they start. This programme is subject to weather and other factors and may therefore change; every effort will be made to keep as close as possible to the programmed dates and duration. Changes will be notified locally and signposted on site.
SCHEDULE
MAIDSTONE
A249 DETLING HILL, DETLING (SOUTHBOUND ONLY)
Road Closed from Scragged Oak Road to A249 roundabout over M20 between the hours of 20:00 and 06:00 only.
A diversion route will be via the M2 (London Bound) J5 to J3, A229 Blue Bell Hill (Southbound), M20 (Coastbound) J6 to J7 and vice versa.
A diversion route for non-motorway traffic will be via A249, A2 Key Street, through Gillingham to Chatham, A230 Maidstone, A229 Bluebell Hill, Running Horse Roundabout, Sandling Lane, Penenden Heath Road, Bearsted Road.
A229 CHATHAM ROAD LEAVE LINK (NORTHBOUND BETWEEN RUNNING HORSE ROUNDABOUT TO COBTREE ROUNDABOUT), AYLESFORD
Road Closed at Running Horse Roundabout between the hours of 20:00 and 06:00 only.
A Diversion route will be via Running Horse Roundabout, A229 Royal Engineers Road (southbound), Royal engineers Roundabout, A229 Royal Engineers Road (northbound).
TONBRIDGE & MALLING
A229 BLUE BELL HILL / MAIDSTONE ROAD, WALDERSLADE
Road closed from the underpass from the northbound off slip to Lord Lees Roundabout onto the overbridge to the Southbound off slip to Bridgewood Roundabout, between the hours of 20:00 and 05:00 only.
A Diversion route (northbound) will be via the off-slip to Lord Lees Roundabout, Lord Lees Roundabout, link road to Bridgewood Roundabout, Bridgewood Roundabout, on-slip to A229.
A Diversion route (southbound) will be via the off-slip to Bridgewood Roundabout, Bridgewood Roundabout, link road to Lord Lees Roundabout, Lord Lees Roundabout, on-slip to A229
